Jawa Power-YTL power plant, Indonesia
In addition to developing alternative energy and renewable energy through domestic biogas, micro hydro power plants and solar powered lighting, Jawa Power-YTL now has a roof-top solar PV power plant with a capacity of 51 kWp supplied by Canadian Solar. The solar PV plant was built in the residential area of Jawa Power-YTL employees in Paiton, Probolinggo, and was officially inaugurated on Thursday, 27 October 2016.
The solar plant, which is currently the largest capacity installed in East Java, were designed by the Company in partnership with the German international development institution, GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbait GmbH). The technical assistance is part of a project named Promotion of Least Cost Renewable Energy (LCORE-INDO), which is implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German government, and the Directorate of Conservation and Renewable Energy (EBTKE), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Republic of Indonesia
The main purpose of this project is to reduce electricity consumption from PLN grid during daytime as well as contributing to the reduction of Green House Gas emissions (CO2). The system has been designed without a battery which minimizes maintenance cost.
Operating since 21st September 2016, the solar plant has supplied averaging around 40% of daytime electricity demand. This is equivalent to IDR 120 million per year and 80 tons of CO2 emission per year.
Jawa Power-YTL continues to develop renewable and alternative energy programs as part of its environmental conservation efforts as well as educate the public that renewable energy sources are available around us and can be developed to provide benefits for the welfare of the society.
