Position Summary

The Asset Management Analyst is responsible for analytical support to Canadian Solar’s Global Asset Management function and portfolio of operating global solar PV projects, including reporting, modeling, forecasting, contract & document management, and market transaction processes. The position will work extensively with different regions and other centralized teams including Legal, Corporate Finance, Development and Project Finance.

Primary Responsibilities

·   Track operational & financial metrics for operating projects & drive improvements

·   Build and maintain tools and standards to streamline process, data analysis, project tracking, documentation and reporting

·   Manage the development, preparation, and analysis of performance & financial reports for the operating projects; identify trends across project inputs and KPIs

·   Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and other reporting obligations for operating projects

·   Compile financial models and economic analysis related to operating projects

·   Manage document administration & management for operating projects

·   Support development of business plan and value proposition for the Global AM CoE

·   Support 3rd Party Asset Management & services initiatives, seek opportunities for value-add and monetization, be an external advocate for services platform

·   Work with internal cross-functional teams (e.g. Legal, Corporate Finance etc) to establish shared service agreements to enable support to & from regions

Required Qualifications

·         2-5 years of experience in asset management, contract management, performance engineering or data analysis roles, preferably in Renewable Energy industry

·         Bachelor’s degree required

·         Understanding of grid-tied PV system design, operation, management, & financing a plus

·         Understanding of economic & business concepts related to Renewable Energy a plus

·         Familiarity with project agreements and terms, with the ability to identify material terms a plus

·         Experience with power market operations or solar performance analysis a plus

·         Highly proficient in MS Excel (advanced proficiency required), Word, and PowerPoint

·         Strong quantitative aptitude with a high level of attention to detail and quality of work product

·         Comfortable working with large data sets

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·         Excellent personal organizational skills

·         Software, because the collection, archival and analysis of data all require writing and maintaining code;

This is a junior position suitable for a recent graduate in engineering, software or science.

Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be responsible for the following initiatives:

  • Analyze the performance of utility-scale solar photovoltaic systems; identify under-performing areas and sub-systems, provide an understanding of system behavior;
  • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and reports to share with clients;
  • Help maintain and enhance the various software used to collect data from our solar plants worldwide;
  • Further develop programs and utilities associated with our global monitoring platform;
  • Assist in the development of web portals for system performance analysis and reporting;
  • Perform simulations using various industry standard programs;
  • Interface with other personnel in Operations and Maintenance, Engineering and Manufacturing to provide continuous improvements to the company’s designs and processes;

Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Engineering degree (electrical or software) or science degree;
  • Working knowledge of a general purpose programming language (preferably Python) and SQL;
  • Exposure to using RESTful APIs, Django web application development, Git are an asset;
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems, understanding of simulation are also assets;
  • Knowledge of data analysis and machine learning techniques are a plus but are not required;
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to write clear, concise reports;
  • Strong work ethic, positive team attitude and able to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
